On 28 December 2025, the President of Southwest State, Somalia, officially signed into law the legislative proposal banning Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). The law, initiated by the Southwest Ministry of Women and Human Rights and approved by the Southwest State MPs House, is now officially enacted, marking a historic step in protecting girls and women’s rights, dignity, and wellbeing across the region.
For the Iniskoy for Peace and Development Organization (IPDO), this moment is particularly meaningful. Having worked for many years to end FGM, we proudly welcome this landmark achievement and commend the government institutions, lawmakers, civil society, and all partners who contributed to making this milestone possible.
