KGS Peace Institute Hosts High-Level Panel Discussion on Political Parties and Somalia’s Federal System.

On 2 February 2026, The KGS Peace Institute (Machadka Nabadda KGS) successfully convened a high-level panel discussion titled:
“Understanding Political Parties and Somalia’s Federal System: A New Opportunity or a Source of Further Conflict?”
The event aimed to promote informed public dialogue on Somalia’s evolving political landscape, with a particular focus on the role of political parties within the country’s federal system. The discussion explored both the opportunities political pluralism presents for democratic governance and the potential risks it may pose to political stability if not well managed.
The panel brought together prominent political voices, including Hon. Adan Mohamed Nor, Member of Parliament, and Mr. Ibrahim Isaaq Yaroow, Political Analyst and Public Figure. Through open and constructive engagement, the panelists shared diverse perspectives and encouraged critical reflection on federalism, party politics, and their implications for peace and governance in Somalia.
The discussion was attended by representatives from various institutions and civil society organizations, including Iniskoy for Peace and Development Organization (IPDO), demonstrating a shared commitment to peacebuilding, inclusive dialogue, and the strengthening of democratic governance.
The event was supported by Somali South West Non-State Actors (SOSWENSA) and received media coverage from MAAY TV, contributing to wider public awareness and engagement.
This panel discussion marked an important step toward fostering informed debate, enhancing civic understanding, and encouraging collaboration among political actors, civil society organizations, and development partners in support of a peaceful, stable, and democratic Somalia.
